Introduction:
The Bolton's have also accomplished a tremendous
amount in the breeding arena. They have started with dogs that had
excellent herding and obedience backgrounds and added great temperaments to produce the
top agility dogs in England and the United States. The Moonlights
and Lunarlites go back to some notable herding greats as International Supreme Champions "Bill" (ISDS 51654),
"Wiston Cap" (ISDS
31154), "Garry" (ISDS 17690), "Glen" (ISDS
3940), "Roy" (ISDS 7690), "Spot" (ISDS 3624), "Mirk"
(ISDS 4438), "Craig" (ISDS 1048), and "Spot" (ISDS
24981). The Obedience greats include Obedience Champions "Blaze
of Sealight", "Glare of Sealight", and "Patanne".
The early kennel name adopted by Chris was
"Moonlights" and Jeff's was "Midnights". The first litter of Moonlights,
by Mooney (Sealight's Moonlight) arrived in 1981 and all competed
in Obedience. Jeff's first Midnight litter by his bitch Teak was 1984 and competed in Obedience and Agility.
Over time the Bolton's changed their kennel name to
"Lunarlites" and their dogs continue to compete at the top levels of
Agility around the world. There are currently 40 Moonlight/Lunarlite
dogs competing in agility in the UK and the USA. This of course does
not take into account the other dogs that have been bred to Bolton dogs
over the years, a number that is well into the hundreds.

| 1997 saw the first four
Lunarlite dogs in the United States. By 2000, one was the USDAA's
2000 Grand Prix of Dog Agility World Champion (Lunarlite Wicked), the
other was a Steeplechase winner at the same event (Lunarlite Ripple Effect
"Rip"), the third placed fourth at the 2000 AKC Agility National
Championships (Lunarlite Currency Exchange "Curry"). There
are now 10 Lunarlite dogs in the States, all in California!
In 2001, there were 6 Lunarlite dogs out of a
possible 30 competing at Olympia, England's top agility competition.
The qualification for Olympia is the most stringent of all agility
competitions. Regional qualifiers all over England chose the top
eight to go to the semi-finals. Of those, the top 10 are chosen to
go to Olympia. The dogs that are now qualified for Olympia had to
compete against and beat thousands. Now it's down to 30 dogs for the
one coveted title of Olympia Champion.
There is also a Lunarlite World Record holder...Lunarlite
Pale Moonlight. Owner and trainer Elaine Auty and her dog Kevin
broke the world record for the fastest 60 weave poles.
In addition the agility success of their
offspring, the Bolton's can now add Obedience Champion to the list.
Lunarlites Lady in Red "Kissei", owned and trained by Mary Ray
achieved the prestigious title of Obedience Champion in 2001. Mary
Ray and Kizzy are also regulars at the Olympia Agility Finals every
year as well.
